Bitey O'Sharke - Transcript 1

“Who are you and how do you know the suspect?”

I, Bitey O'Sharke, head of the board of directors of Laundering International, am a regular acquaintance of Mr von DougSoc. We've met weekly for our games of solitaire for around 5 years now.

"Was there ever any gambling involved in these games?"

Gentlemen do not gamble. We invest.

“So what do you know about the other suspects?”

The others? Polly is Mr von Dougsoc’s partner, and Eevil and I have been together for just under a decade now. Bear Daddy is one of von Dougsoc's many... confidants. I believe that Turnip is Mr von Dougsoc's son.

“What were you doing at the time of the murder?”

Nothing much. Early in the evening I'd had a brief discussion about the best opening strategies in a game of competitive solitaire, which had got more heated than usual. This was resolved well before the act. After this dispute, I did not leave the room. However, I believe that Mr von Dougsoc left the room at this point in order to cool off and avoid further altercations this evening, and I was disappointed not to get the chance to apologise. While his "strength-pooling" strategy with the high cards had seemed bull-headed and excessive at the time, I have since realised the wisdom in integrating it with a more standard Alfretti Opening - though it is still a gamble that leaves you weak to the Brigadier's Defence, it could put you in a strong position to consolidate after a well-timed Alternation.

“Did anyone leave the room at all between 19:30 and 20:30 on Tuesday 7th February?"

Yes. In the event that people were beginning to get restless as the evening drew on, there were several movements throughout the room. I was engaged in an in-depth discussion with Mr Daddy, of Front Enterprises, when I noticed that my partner Eevil McKill had disappeared. Apparently they had left to go to the lavatory at that time, but I did not see them again until about 5 minutes before the body was discovered.

"What can you tell us about the spear that you brought to the event?"

The spear? It is a ceremonial mastership spear, granted to sharks who have completed their full master's degree at the University of Sharkvard. I am entitled to wear and carry it to social events and on special occasions. It is a bit large, and I wish it was smaller, like Whale University's ceremonial swords, but alas. As it is, I was barely able to fit it through the door without Eevil's help. It has been in the room all evening, where I have maintained my possession of it at all times.
